Ganja Marathon 2017

Ganja Marathon is scheduled to take place on September 17, 2017. The marathon race is held at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. 

Ganja, the ancient city of Azerbaijan, will be the first city to host the marathon, which will be held under the slogan "Write history with your will!" and "Join us at the Marathon". "Ganja marathon - 2017" is organized with the support of Regional Development Public Union of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Ganja City Executive Power. 

The exclusive partner of the marathon is Azercell. The project will be implemented by “SMG” (“Sport Marketing Group”).

“Ganja Marathon - 2017” aims to assist the development of sports, promote healthy lifestyle and bring people together for good causes. 

“Ganja Marathon - 2017” will cover a distance of 17 kilometers, starting at the Triumphal arch to the finish line in Park Complex named after Heydar Aliyev. 

The objective of “Ganja Marathon - 2017” is to create a new culture in the sport history of Azerbaijan. The main goals of the event include assisting the development of the industry and encouraging young people to lead healthier and more balanced lifestyles.

Philosophy behind the logo

The logo, which combines elements of Ganja and reflecting properties of the marathon race. One of these elements is history.

History - Ganja thousand-year history, the birthplace of the ancient culture. Its ancient history, being the second largest city, the historical capital of Azerbaijan are its historical status.

Choosing the slogan "Go with History!" is not in vain. This slogan was inspired by the ancient Ganja gates, historical monuments and historical streets of Ganja.

Another noteworthy element in the logo is the ribbon. The ribbon represents four values: unity, solidarity, positivity and healthiness. 

Strategic goals of marathon: 

Development of sports – building an audience for sports events and make these events profitable;

Promoting healthy lifestyle – encouraging people to exercise;

Attracting tourists – turning “Ganja Marathon” into one of the most reputable marathons and encourage foreign sportsmen and guests to participate in it.


The values “Ganja Marathon” espouses are reflected in the main element of its logo – ribbon. The ribbon represents four values: unity, solidarity, positivity and health. Every value the ribbon symbolizes has a specific meaning: 

- Unity - coming together for charitable and healthy causes;

- Health - encouraging young people to be more physically active and lead a healthier lifestyle by exercising; 

- Solidarity - inspiring people to engage in good causes; 

- Positivity - promoting positivity by participating in the race
